New era looking for a new standards in the dementia care
Abstract
Background: Due to demographic changes and lifestyle in SE Europe aging have accelerate pace. Until 2030., expected percentage of older adults will be 30% of total population what is twice as big as average world percentage and almost twice more than 2010. In the same time life expectancy will be 78 years and it is 17 years more than 1991. when happened social changes in SE Europe(SEE). Expected age of population at 2030. is 47 years and it is on top of functional adjusted environment. Until 2030. SEE will lose more than 15% of population due to migration and deaths(UN DESA 2015). BiH has 150.000 peoples living with dementia(Kučuk 2015).
Objective: What are consequences of the today’s organization of the health and social care regarding people with dementia in the context of the Covid-19, how is it related with demographic changes and what can be solution for the future?
Methods: Demographic changes has led people in changing of a life habits. Covid-19 reports show that people with dementia(PwD) was a most affected group with highest rate of mortality. Also, death rate due to starvation is increased! This directs us that new era require new solutions and standards in organization of life of PwD and opportunities by the health and social care system regarding with recommendations by WHO (Global strategy on Ageing and Health 2016.-2020.) extended for the new requirements regarding Covid-19. We shall compare current level of services and offers versus needs of PwD that could be satisfied through self-sustainable system, the system that could be functional for the time of emergency conditions, on base of non-pharmacological multidisciplinary approach and in accordance with needs of PwD.
Results: We made the projection of a new model of housing PwD for the new era based on foster the abilities of PwD, deliver person centred integrated care as well as long-term care. Model offer solutions in accordance with recommendations by WHO and it would be a cheaper than current models.
Conclusion: Pandemic of Covid-19 brought to the surface the all issues regarding PwD that cann't be solved by today's health and social care systems. These systems would be transformed in accordance with a new requirements and facts building a new standards regarding dementia care in accordance with principles of a good health and well being for PwD.

Biography
Expert for dementia on the field of psychology. He designed “Rehabilitation program for people suffer by dementia” as non-pharmacological approach in treatment of dementia which implement Centre for dementia. Author of a many brochures and the two books: book for nurses and care giversa and guide for GP's. Author of guidelines „Dementia in the time of Covid-19 pandemic“. He is coauthor of transnational guidelines to dementia „Interprofessional Management of Dementia“ used for INDEED Online Learning Platform funded by EU INTERREG and translated into 5 languages (english, slovakian, slovenian, bulgarian, romanian). Lecturer in Dementia Master Classes, coach for medical experts, nurses, formal and unformal care givers, psychologists, social workers, dementia care therapists. He is president of Working Group for Development of National Dementia Strategy in FBiH. He is a participant and initiator of many research projects and single out is scientific research in BiH „Dementia as epidemic of BH society“. Currently, he is director of Centre for dementia in Sarajevo that is unique institution in Western Balkan.
