Presentation Title:

Filum disease and neuro-cranio-vertebral syndrome with arnold-chiari syndrome I, idiopathic syringomyelia, idiopathic scoliosis: Quality of life

Abstract

Filum disease and Neuro-Cranio-vertebral syndrome are two pathological concepts that comprise various diseases. Our objective is to describe their neuropsychological alterations and analyze their impact on Quality of Life. We conducted a retrospective, descriptive study of the clinical anamneses of 372 randomly selected patients diagnosed with Filum disease and assessed self-reported psychological-emotional health in 34 others.

Filum disease's consequences on social and environmental contexts further decrease in Quality of Life. The physical limitations, discomfort, and progressive nature of symptoms significantly impact daily living. For diagnosis, prognosis, treatment, and postoperative evaluation, it is essential to consider all aspects reported in the initial anamnesis to provide a comprehensive and patient-centered approach.

Mood alterations, cognitive dysfunction, and sexual dysfunction may be affected, alongside physical symptoms like headaches, pain, instability, lack of sensitivity or strength, and paresis. Many patients report that symptom progression worsens self-perception of physical and psychological health, influencing life expectations.
